General Strategies for Facilitating a PBL Unit
All teachers have the capability to facilitate a PBL unit. While the endeavor is a skill that requires time, patience and practice to master certain aspects of facilitating a PBL remain constant and should always be considered. We have provided information about ideas we will use to create a classroom environment that supports collaboration, as well as articulated a full list of ideas for fostering student inquiry.
Specific Strategies for Facilitating this PBL Unit
We have written a detailed description outlining all aspects of every day. We have been schooled in light of the aphorism, "Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Results."
Scaffolding Students
In the same way that it takes teachers time to become accustomed to PBL, students also need time and assistance to feel comfortable with the nature of the PBL style. Therefore, teachers must often use different scaffolding strategies, both planned and unplanned, to ensure students can be best engaged during the unit. When designing our unit, we tried to think from the student's perspective in order to identify areas where scaffolding may be necessary and misconceptions students may have.
